A new update of earthhour.org is now live, along with the new Vote Earth video embedded in this post. This marks the beginning of a new phase in the open source Vote Earth campaign leading up to the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen. This is where world leaders will decide how we deal with climate change. The question remains: will they choose Earth or Global Warming? It’s an important conference to say the least.
As the video shows, hundreds of millions of people around the world have already voted Earth by switching off their lights for Earth Hour 2009 in March. Personally, I thought it was incredible to be part of this mass participation event and to see it all unfold around the world. I worked on the Earth Hour Global Team for Earth Hour 2009, and I’m continuing to do so for Earth Hour’s Vote Earth. From now until the vital conference in December, Earth Hour will be asking people to continue to show where they stand, to Vote Earth.
There will be many ways to vote. You can Vote Earth by simply declaring that you stand for ‘Earth’ over ‘Global Warming’. You can Vote Earth by doing something that helps reduce the impact of global warming. You might already be doing something positive for the planet – that can be your vote. A Vote for Earth can be as easy or as complex as you choose.
